Testing W2k8 St 32 and 64 bit windows restore from the Boot W2k8 CD. 32 bit works like a charm. W2k8 64 bit I get the message in the problem title. I have 2 install disks for W2k8 install, a 32 bit and 64. I have tryed both on the 64 bit server with no luck. I tryed redownloading SW_DVD5_Windows_Svr_2008w_SP2_English__x64_DC_EE_SE_X15-41371.ISO and still get the error message.

How Can I Schedule A Backup LESS Than Daily?

I'm currently using Windows Server Backup (in Server 2008 R2) to an attached HDD in an eSATA dock, which INCLUDES the Bare Metal Recovery AND System State.  There is, and will be for the near future, very littl activity on my server and no significant daily changes.  I'd like to be able to, for the time being, schedule the backup to occur only weekly, but Windows Server Backup doesn't seem to provide that option.  Currently the backup is scheduled to occur daily, but I've only been mounting the disk weekly.  This causes six days of "Backup Failed" error messages, and I'm afraid that I may not be getting everything that I need when the weekly backups occur.

I also have two Win 7 computers  backing up the same way, but Win 7 provides for a WEEKLY option.  Is there any way to properly schedule weekly backups on my server???

server 2008 backup configuration issue

Using WinServer 2008 and trying to set up the Windows Server Backup program. During the process, I am selecting the option for custom configuration, as I have no desire or need to back up the entire hard drive. I only want to back up the data files stored on that hard drive. However, I'm not given that option even when selecting custom. My choice is drive C: or nothing. Even changing options in Configure Performance Settings doesn't change anything on my selection menus. I'm attempting to set up this backup to a locally attached external USB hard drive. Am I missing something here? I'm a strong advocate of using the built-in features included with a product already paid for. But if the Windows Server Backup program isn't capable of doing what I want, I can always uninstall the role and obtain a third party solution. I'd rather not though.

Windows Server backup with external USB drives and Safe Remove

I am planning to implement Windows Server 2012 Essentials backup using two WD Passport USB external hard drives so that I can rotate them off-site.

Would the person in charge of swapping the external hard drives be required to log in to the server and Safe Remove the drive before unplugging it or would it be safe for the drives to be unplugged without doing the Safe Remove?

Thank you.

Hi experts,

I schedule a daily backup on two member servers and it runs ok. However, I use the same setting for my two domain controllers but it do not run accordingly. What happens? I check the settings many times and I use "run once" to run the scheduled job and it executes successfully. Where is the scheduled backup job jog? I check event log but nothing there.

hi

we have a cluster server which consist of sql databases for our sharepoint farm sites.

server : w2k3 r2 sp2

currently, we having issue with incremental backup not successful. we are using a 3rd party backup software to run backup. for the 1st full backup was successful but  after that an error appeared when to perform incremental backup. check at event log, the event id:17,Source: arcflashvoldrv .

problem occured when we'd expanded 1 of volume fr 3 tb  to 7tb. earlier, we had put about 15%-50% for vss (3.63 tb) on the same volume itself , then reboot the server.

prb happen again when run incremental backup, but this time wt error event id: 20, source volsnap  :The shadow copies of volume e: were aborted because of a failed free space computation

total size : 7.26 tb

free space : 4.13 tb

when perform vss list writers, notice that got 2 writers which failed status. they are

Writer name: 'Cluster Service Writer' state : [10] failed

WMI writer State : [10] failed

i have come across 1 of Microsoft article to download hotfix as per kb 887827, but not sure whether it will suitable @ solve the problem besides the above writers failed. may i know what should be done to correct the writers as well? i dont think its due to the backup software issue, because for full backup was successful, as well as verify backup after performed restart server. kindly guide me because im newbie in windows server clustering, etc. something related to pool allocation?etc.

tx in advance for the offer help.

Hi please help, Windows Server backup keeps failing with an error "The drive cannot find the sector requested", I am doing a full backup to an external drive which has been dedicated for backups, it does about 94.6gb out of 95gb so is close to finishing. I have performed a check disk, updated all my hardware drivers (its a HP server with hardware mirrored drives), I am at a loss - does anyone have any ideas or solutions.

I have uninstalled and rebooted the server and then reinstalled but still get the same error

Also must add that this is a live server, oh and is my first server 2012 install (soon to be last!!)

Why does system state backup consider D: as a required drive for inclusion?

$

I have Windows Server 2008 and I tried to make a system state backup of it. For some reason it wants to include the D drive too for the backup. This is not that nice, since there are Hyper-V VMs on that disk (200GB worth), so the backup would cause them to be included and some of them to go into saved state for some time. I only want to have the C drive included, as with all the other machines. I also have E and F drives and the backup will not backup them to system state. So there's something strange about D.

I have not installed any applications on D, there is no pagefile, nothing there. Sysvol, boot volume etc are C. Only my own files are on D. I have searched the registry and the only thing I found pointing to D was one service. Could this be the reason why the backup is wanting to include the whole D drive?

Is there some documentation to explain how file to be saved in system state is determined? I have searched and searched and found nothing.

SBS2008 Standard Complete PC Restore failed with (0x80070495)

Urgent help needed!  I am trying to recover my SBS2008 standard machine after
a RAID controller failure.  I removed the dead adaptec 51645 and am using 2
1TB RAID1 on the ICH9R.  I then proceeded to initiate Windows complete PC
restore with the SBS2008 standard disc.

The old RAID on the 51645 is only 720GB large so the new 1TB RAID1 should be
large enough for the restore.

But I keep on getting "The Volume ID could not be found. (0x80070495)"
error.  Nothing seems to be helping.

So please help!!!!

Windows Server Backup with Hyper-V Backup Error | 517, 2155348041.

Hi there. So I want to back a file up from a server I have. I've done every single fix/step I can find on the internet and for some reason, none of them have worked.

You see. I can select the files and the folders to back up and create a fully working schedule however, about 2-5 mins into the process, it stops on "Creating Shadow Copy" then displays the error. I the further look into the error and apparently"The version does not support this version of the file format." Looked everywhere on Google and I don't have that "Samba" thing to fix the issue. I have looked into the event viewer and it just tells me to review the event details for a solution and that's where I have got the 2 error codes in the title.

Please help me as i'm struggling to find a fix!
