Windows Server Backup failing in Windows Server 2016

Hello Technet,
I have a strange issue.

When I perform a system state backup on a W2K16 server to a (qnap nas) unc path it fails

When I perform a system state backup on a W2K12R2 server to a (qnap nas) unc path it succeeds

When I perform a system state backup on a W2K16 server to a (windows share) unc path it succeeds

When I perform a system state backup on a W2K12R2 server to a (windows share) unc path it succeeds

The command I use on both servers is :
Wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:”\\<ipaddress>\backup”

The share is accessible and the permissions are also correct.

The error message I get is :
There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volumes in the backup set.
The specified backup disk cannot be found.

Eventviewer gives a ID 9 Unexpected provider failure. Restarting the service may fix the problem. Error code: 80070037@02000014

The logfile in %windir%\logs\windowserverbackup says :
Backup of volume \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\ has failed. The specified backup disk cannot be found.

On the Qnap nas I tried different SMB versions.

I also tried multiple servers and multiple nas boxes on multiple fysical locations

The only similarity is that the servers are running on Hyper-V (a 2012R2 host and a 2016 host)

Anybody has any idea ??
