Windows 2008R2 x64 System Recovery on NEC Express 5800 R120e-2M

Hello,

I need to perform a complete system recovery test on our UAT servers.

Current Configurations : NEC EXpress 5800 R120e-2M

Disk Drives  : 3 disks ( C:, D: and Y drive ) 

I tried yesterday but did not succeed.

Steps.

I made a full system backup image on drive Y: It was successful.

Boot the system using Windows 2008R2 bootable CD and select Recover System option.

Problems:

1. Windows could not recognize the disks firstly then I checked the NEC Express 5800 manual and found that I need to load the RAID drivers when Windows asks for the Load Drivers. Drivers were load successfully. It is hardware RAID implemented in the server.

Luckily, Windows detects the current installed operating system but the problem was that,

Windows detects the C: as H: when it displayed the list of installed operating.I tried next but Windows could not detect the backup image and finally gave up.

I saw  that all the disks volumes changed as follows

C : drive became H:

D : drive became N:

Y : drive became L:

I am not able to understand this behavior. Appreciate if someone can please provide some insight/information for above problem.

I am stuck at this point and can not test the Windows Full System Recovery on UAT before attempting it on our Production and DR environment.

Finally I booted the server as normal and I can see C,D and Y: drives.

Event ID 4097 Hyper-V-Integration-VSS

Hello,

Trying to figure out why I'm getting Event ID 4097 Hyper-V-Integration-VSS after the backup runs. The event says:

"The Virtual machine A9BCE8FC-FB7A-463A-B4F3-3A6AE83446B7 cannot be backed up since it has dynamic disks in it"

These starting to appear after I had to add another virtual hard disk to my Exchange 2010 VM. Everything is working fine and the backups complete successfully. The backup is being done by CA ArcServ. I also get the same errors if I use Windows Server Backup as well. The second additional virtual hard drive is a fixed disk, not dynamic.

Dose anybody know why I"m getting these and how to fix it so they go away?

BMR from DPM fails 0x8007000E

Hi,


I am going to run a BMR on a VM in hyper-V (OS drive on a big fileserver). I made a similar VM. Same size OS disk. When attempting to run the restore i get an error as in the picture below:

Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.So i added 10GB more than the original server OS disk. Same error. So i double the disk size. Same error. Anyone that have seen this before?

Windows Server 2012 R2 Backup to Amazon EC2 Instance?

We have a Windows 2012 Server that currently backs up to an external hard drive nightly. We have a couple EC2 instances with space for those backups to reside and would like to direct our backups there. Can we configure Windows Server Backup to backup directly to the external EC2 instance or do we need to use 3rd-party software to facilitate this?

Clearly I'm not familiar with Windows Server Backup functionality - thanks in advance.

Error (Bare Metal Recovery) in Windows Server 2012 Backup

Hello

My backup was seccessful with warning, everything is completed except (Bare Metal Recovery) failed, it status said: (Backup failed to complete)

In backup details I found in errors tab this message: (BMR backup failed as ASR writer while creating shadow copy and was skipped. Detailed error: Not all components reported by the writer can be snapshtted.

I clicked (View list of all failed files) and found this:

Robocopy /create switch and replicating file system structure - always build again and report files as "changed"?!

hi

I want to replicate file system structure on new location several times per day for searching purposes.

/create switch works but when I run it again robocopy report that all source files is changed and process last long as from first starting. No one file is changed in source folder.

How to avoid this and speed this up?

My customer purchased volume license of server 2012 on 09/30/2013, 2012 R2 release date was 10/18/2013 (18 days later). Are they eligible for 2012 r2 and if so what is the time period of free upgrade eligibility?

Powershell to query AD System state backup status

Hi Experts,

Recently we found that backup is not finishing completely because of disk space issues. This error message was only found in windows server backup GUI window. So is there any way to pull these details and send via a email as part of daily health check

Virtual Machine bare metal backup of Windows Server question

Hi,

Bare metal backups were meant to work only in the same hardware correct?

In this virtual machines case:

 * Did a bare metal backup of a VMware VM with Windows Server 2012 (AD domain)

 * Deleted the VM

 * Created a new VM on the same VMware server with the same name and hardware configurations

When I try to restore that bare metal backup it says it can't find nothing.

My questions are:

 * Is there an specific folder that we must use? (Bare metal backup inside an external storage M:\Support\Windows\srv-ad, when I search for the backup I must use M:\Support\Windows or M:\Support\Windows\srv-ad? None of them worked)

 * If there is something different (name, hardware), it won't work?

 * I need to install Windows Server 2012 and configure the same AD before trying to restore it so it can be found?

 * If I change from a VMware server to a Hyper-V server that backup will be useless?

 * We can use this bare metal backup to restore that Windows Server on a physical server?

Can I delete file NTUSER.DAT {xxxx}.TM.blf / .regrants-ms? safe or not?

Hi guys,

I have user account for winimage backup and runing on windows server 2008. But every Windows backup running, it created Log is like NTUSER.Dat {xxx}.TM.TM.blf / .regrants-ms. That is why on my drive C: was log's growing up(C:\user\winimage.backup)

Can i delete those file as normally? or another way?

Excluding folders from backup

Hi

SBS 2011 std.

I am including everything in the backup but have excluded D:\WSUS folder from it. Screens below. Is it likely to cause any issues such as not backing up files and folders that are added to D:\ drive in future?

Windows server 2008 R2 64bits Windows Backup Error 2155347997

We had working in Windows 2008 Server Enterprise 64 bits the Windows Server Backup and was working perfect. Then we made the upgrade to Windows 2008 Server Enterprise 64 bits R2 after tht when we want to create a backup it stops giving the error 2155347997. Trying to fix we did this first:

We ran the GetInvalidPathsv2.ps1 and only detect instances of  "The service path contains spaces, the whole path needs to be enclosed using double quotes"

We have other server with Windows 2008 Enterprise NOT R2  and gives identical instances but Windows Server Backup works there.

Now what could be happening after the upgrade to Windows Server R2 why not run there? Before the update in Windows NOT R2 works fine just after the upgrade to R2 began the problem. Also we tried these 2 scripts running from a .bat without luck:

How to configure Windows Server Backup Schedule and Email

Dear Server Expert,

We are using windows server 2012 standard. Currently, I would like to create s schedule of backup, however the windows backup schedule is very limited in options. May I know whether any options:

1. to configure full or incremental backup daily, weekly, etc

2. send email notifications after backup done.
