good morning to all,
here is what i am trying to accomplish: I have one server (server1) that i would like to backup on another server (server2). i am already running a windows server backup and excluded some folders because of the 2tb size limit, so i want to backup those excluded files onto another server. this is what i am typing in:
wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:e: -include:\\server1\sharedfiles\photos
this should backup server1 to server 2 e drive. i see retrieving volume information... ERROR-the file "\\server1\sharedfiles\photos" is invalid
i have tried 'before the\\ and after photos, i have tried to enter the volume name of server 1 as
wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:e: -include:\\server1\Volume{b9e7a2d0-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}sharedfiles\photos
i still get the the specified file name in the file spec is invalid
any ideas?

Hi,
I only have a short question:
Does Server 2008 R2 or older support LTO 7?
I got an IBM Streamer but can't find driver for it.
Thanks for help.
I am running windows server 2012 as a Domain controller and wanting to trim the backups as the disk is getting full.
I would like to know if running "Wbadmin delete backup -deleteoldest" deletes BOTH backup and systemstate of combined backups?
I run a daily backup job of the main drive and system state and I seem to have the impression I needed to delete both the backup and systemstate elements separately?
The issue is that when I run the delete process for the system state it states that "ERROR - No system state backups were found."
I have read that you need to run the two seperate deleations if your running the backup and system state elements seperatly which I am not.
Can you clarify this for me?
Secondly, Do the backups automatically trim themselves when the drive gets full?
Many thanks

Hi,
does Windows 10 Enterprise (10.0.10240) installed as a VM in HyperV on a 2012R2 Standard support RemoteFX?
I always get a black screen after booting in the VM.
Thanks for help.
I am using 2012 R2 WSB. All of my backups are within the last 30 days. However, the oldest copy is January 2016. It indicates in on a volume I think no longer exist. When I launch the recovery wizard and go to the backup in question, it says the status is offline.
How can I correct this?
Thank you
I am trying to remove a disk from from a set of four target backup disk drives. I tried the GUI and the command line and I get the same error right at the end. Here is what I did on the comman line:

Hi
Really, there is a bug that you cant modify the scudule task in GUI, OK-- you will need all disks
I have damaged disk, therefore i want to add a new disk and delete the older one from rotation
the funney thing is that even the work aroung in the command line doesnt work, i was running
wbadmin enable backup -removetarget:\\?\Volume{3cea1437-0c2e-11e0-a2bc-001b215d8f9d}
Pressed twice YES
and the program crash.
is there any anyway to this basic abilty to remove the disk without destroying the whole backup ?
I cant connect the disk because it was damaged!

Hi,

I want to build a new Multipointserver 2012 with max. performance.
Where can I find the hardware specification so which max. graphic card, CPU, RAM, Mainboard I can use?
Thanks for help.
Hi,
how can I mirror my multipoint server 2012 screen to a beamer?
I always get another station displayed if I want to use the beamer.
Thanks for help.
Hi,
I'm planning to backup VMs hosted on CSV with System Center 2012 R2 DPM.
My hosts OS is Windows Server 2012 DC while System Center 2012 R2 DPM will be installed as VM in another server (not included in the failover cluster) using Win Server 2012 R2 as the OS, the reason to use R2 because in R2 DPM can be installed as VM thus
I can conserve hardware resources.
I want to ask whether there will be any compabitility issues if I using different OS between the hosts and DPM server?
Thanks in advance,
Johanes.L
Hello,
I have written a small batch script to make a Windows 2012 VM backup to NAS :
net use F: \\NAS-BACKUP-01\FullBackup Password /user:username /p:yes
wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:"F:\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien" -hyperv:SRV-NAV-01 -quiet -vssCopy >> C:\backuplogs_NAV.txt
net use F: /DELETE
This script work fine when launched directly (using an admin account).
However, I receive an error when this script is started via the Scheduler :
This will back up HyperV\SRV-NAV-01 to F:\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien.
ERROR - The specified backup location could not be found or is not a supported backup storage location.
Remarks:
- Same result if the script is scheduled using an admin or the System account
- The script is always run with the highest privileges
- Admin and system account are allow to Log on as batch job
- Same result if the target is the network share (instead of F:)
wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:"\NAS-BACKUP-01\FullBackup\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien" -hyperv:SRV-NAV-01
-quiet -vssCopy >> C:\backuplogs_NAV.txt
Do you have any idea to have this script running via the Scheduler ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello,
here is a scenario:
We have DPM server in our domain which is protecting dozen of machines. Now we are about to implement Microsoft Azure Backup Server but when I try to add server to protect in MABS Im getting an error saying that dpm agent can only point to one dpm server.
Now Im wondering if there will be any damage if I just make unistall from dpm, remove the agent and install it on MABS.
Did anyone have similar scenario, and how did you manage it?
On one of my AD 2008 domain controllers the NTDS writer is in failed state.
Writer name: 'NTDS'
Writer Id: {b2014c9e-8711-4c5c-a5a9-3cf384484757}
Writer Instance Id: {a0b40cc8-ded5-4497-b6dd-50f56de2dbe2}
State: [11] Failed
Last error: Non-retryable error
This is Windows server 2008 STD 64 bit
I'm trying to find out if there is a way to fix this WITHOUT rebooting my DC. I tried restarting the VSS service.
The cause of the failure was this.
lsass (636) An attempt to write to the file "\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy9\Windows\NTDS\edb.log" at offset 6029824 (0x00000000005c0200) for 512 (0x00000200) bytes failed after 0 seconds with system error 19 (0x00000013): "The media is write protected. ". The write operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8). If this error persists then the file may be damaged and may need to be restored from a previous backup.
lsass (636) Unable to write to logfile \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy9\Windows\NTDS\edb.log. Error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).
Any help is greatly appreciated!
All,
Am very new to backups in general and specifically Windows Server backups, I am interested in backing up a Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 2008 R2 terminal server.
These servers have a bunch of applications and programs like Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and various other programs.
I am wondering if worst case scenario, I have to rebuild the server, that if I have a bare metal backup with system state, system reserved, and local disk all backed up, that I can restore those programs and settings just to how they were before. Is it like taking an image of a computer? Or what can I expect from this.
Can I test out the restore on to a virtual machine to see for myself? Is the restore hardware specific? these servers are both physical.
Thanks much.
