Unable to configure Service Account to perform System State Backup

$

0

I'm trying to backup my system state on my Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller via a command line batch file.

I have created a dedicated service account and configured this within Task Manager. Whenever I click on 'Apply' I get the following error

'An error has occurred for task Backup. Error message: The following error was reported: 2147943712'

I did a bing search and found an article which suggests to change registry key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA DisableDomainCreds to 0.

PROBLEM:

Once I've set this registry I can configure a service account and the backup is performed successfully however it keeps changing back to 1.

What else am I missing/need to do?

How does robocopy walk through a directory tree

$

Hi all,

could someone explain to me how robocopy "walks" through a directory tree?

It is not alphabetically, or from big to small. Looking at the ressource monitor ist seems that robocopy processes the directories randomly.

How could i calculate how long it will need to finish?

I start Robocopy with these parameters on a Server 2008 R2:

Source Dest /MT:16 /MIR /NP /COPYALL /W:1 /R:1 /LOG:Logfile

At startup the logfile contains only the header (in older versions of robocopy the logfile was written directly).

only after robocopy finished the logfile is written and the files listed are in alphabetically order.

However when I launch backup tool the console will show only the local drives but not mapped ones. Please suggest a solution  or workaround.I do not want to use a third party tool

Does System State Backup support incremental backup in Wİndows Server 2008 R2

$

Hi Gurus,

on the following technet link Microsoft mentions that a System State Backup does not have an incremental support. An this article applies to 2008 R2 too.

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2
Backing Up Active Directory Domain Services
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816584.aspx
Feature  System state backup
Has incremental backup support No*

Below, a Microsoft employee on technet blogs mentions that 2008 R2 system state backups are incremental.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2009/06/22/backup-version-and-space-management-in-windows-server-backup.aspx
New in Windows Server 2008 R2 system state backups are incremental and use VSS shadow copies for creating different versions of the backup.

I would really appreciate if a an MSFT can tell me which one is correct.

With kind regards,

Cengiz Kuskaya

VSS writers timeout Server2008 R2

$

Hello everyone

I have been having continual issue with IIS, WMI and System writers on Windows Server2008 R2

Using Symantec BE, jobs keep failing and the writer status's keep reverting to timeouts state after/during a jobs running.

Doing a restart on the server brings all the states to stable, but then when the job runs and fails, the writers are timed-out.

I can't seem to find any solution to this issue on server2008 besides the good old restart, which isn't cutting it anymore.

Anyway to update/reinstall system writers?

Any solution/tips are appreciated!

The Block Level Backup Engine service has stopped.

When we try to restart the Block Level Backup Engine service we get error as “Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Service on Local Computer.

Error 0x800700b7: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.”

I have already restarted Virtual disk and Volume shadow copy service, but no luck.

Any help in resolving this issue will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks

If I stop the backup and recreate it it works fine for one night then I start to see these errors. Anybody know what would cause this? I can access the remote share just fine from the server so I doubt that's the issue.

Hi buddies.

Maybe you know how to solve this problem I'm getting. I have a backup policy in my server, that makes a full image. I'm able to restore that image (using the windows cd) if it's located in an USB HDD, but if I try to load the image trough a network share, the quoted error message appears...

Any idea? I've tried in different servers, locations, sharing permisions...

Thx!

Hello,

I am attempting to complete a backup on a W2K8 STD server to an external USB drive. The devices are 120GB Samsung S1 Minis. I cannot complete either on-demand or scheduled backups to these devices. When I attempt a backup an error is almost immediately generated and the backup stops.

The error displayed in WSB is:

"One of the backup files could not be created. Detailed Error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

A System event log error is also generated:

WindowsImageBackup folder to offsite storage?

Hi,

I currently regularly backup my server using WSB on an external hard drive connected via USB.  Once a week, I would like to send the contents of the external hard drive to an offsite storage.  To do this, can I simply copy the contents of the external hard drive, i.e.: WindowsImageBackup folder, to the offsite storage?  In the event of a disaster that destroys the original external hard drive and the server, can I simply copy the WindowsImageBackup folder from the offsite storage onto a replacement external hard-drive and then run a restore?  I'm open to any better or alternate suggestions as well.

Thanks!

I am trying to create a system image of my desktop HD (Dell Inspiron 530 Core 2 Duo - 500 GB hard drive) with the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0 external hard drive (3TB).  During the process I get the error:

One of the backup files could not be created (0x0878002A)

Additional Information:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. (0x8007045D).

I have tried chkdsk and other solutions I have sought online to no avail.  Please help!  I just got this big external HD to create a system image backup!

Thanks!

One of my users with a lot of data is getting a backup drive full message.
Does Windows 7 backup automatically manage deleting old backups so that new backups will fit on the drive?
I am assuming this is the way it works because it only makes sense.  I just need confirmation.

Server 2012 backup fails while preparing one of the local volumes with "the mounted backup volume is inaccessible"

This is a new installation and configuring the backup for the first time. We have two local volumes C and E and a Hyper-V guest located on E. We are trying to backup everything every night and by default windows offers to backup it all including system state, hyperv, and the volumes.

After configuring the backup completes on System state and C: just fine and then moves to E:. Before it even displays a total drive size it calls an error and fails the backup with 'The mounted backup volume is inaccessible." The error in event log is 0x807800C5 which in all my searches of forums seems to be related to others doing backups to network drives. I'm using the dedicated local drive option and have added the drives as valid backup destinations.

Upon further looking if I examine C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsServerBackup\Backup_error-xxxxx.log I find the following:

Backup of volume E: has failed. The mounted backup volume is inaccessible. Please retry the operation.

E: has roughly 5.4TB free space and is using approximately 0.5TB total. My backup drives are empty 3TB drives.

I had Shadow Copy enabled for drive E so I tried changing the size limits to No Limit and when that didn't help I disabled Shadow Copy entirely on E:.

I'm at a loss of where to go next. It's difficult for me to make many changes because I have 6 backup destinations setup for the server and the infurating problem with needing to have all the destinations plugged in before you can successfully make changes to the backup settings is making it real difficult to try many things. I am remote to this server and had to make some serious changes to get the 6 drives all connected to begin with. (Yes, I read and tried all the command line suggestions which used to work on 2008 R2 just fine and now don't in 2012.)

Starting Windows 7 Backup : Server execution failed(0x80080005) ????

A MSFT asked me to post here and here is a link to my original post and some troubleshooting already done.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/8669451c-772e-4bb4-91b0-9b089bf5c2cd/

My original first post in that forum:
Running a Sony VGN-NS140E laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. This was a "clean" install versus an upgrade install. When I try to "Set up backup" under "Backup and Restore" I get an error "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: Server execution failed(0x80080005)". I am running Comodo x64 Internet Security (Firewall, AntiVirus, AntiSpyware) and am not running a system registry cleaner or optimizer in the background, although I have run CCleaner as a registry cleaner in the past. I do not know if this is a new or old problem as this is the first time I tried to use Windows Backup. I did try starting both Volume Shadow Copyservice and Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service , they both successfully started but Windows Backup still produces this error. Thank you in advance for your help.

Problem still occurs, thanks for your interest.

Server 2012 Backup to Remote Shared Folder Fails

I have a new 2012 Server and am trying to get Windows Backup to function as designed. I created a job and pointed it to a remote shared folder on another server. The first backup runs just fine, but subsequent backup jobs fail a few minutes after they start with the error "The specified name is no longer available." Thing is, that is not the problem - there is clearly a bug in the Server 2012 backup since the first backup to an EMPTY remote folder ALWAYS works just fine, it is only the subsequent backups that fail.  Another user reported this problem elsewhere but was never able to resolve the Windows Backup issue, he merely switched to using a 3rd-party backup product.

Create second (nearly identical) server 2008 or 2012

Hi,

I have setup a Server 2012 perfectly and wish to create another server using the exact same hardware, so I have bought another Windows Server licence.  My question is, can I do a Windows Server Backup bare metal then restore that onto the new server hardware and then change the product key using slmgr so that the new server uses the freshly-purchased product key?

Then do I have to re-activate the new server?

Will I get any problems having them on the same network, once I have changed the computer name and IP address, is there a GUID in the computer somewhere that will cause me issues?

Is this legal to do like this?

Many thanks.
